Check out the official trailer for Halloween Ends below:
5. The Halloween Ends Synopsis
It’s not every day you get the official blurb to coincide with the release of a movie trailer, but many eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out that Universal had included a brief synopsis for Halloween Ends with the video. As per Blumhouse Pictures, here’s the official synopsis for Halloween Ends, the final chapter in David Gordon Green’s Halloween Trilogy: Four years after the events of Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson after the death of her parents. Laurie has decided to take all the fear and rage, she has been holding onto for the last 4 decades and write a memoir which is almost completed. Michael Myers has once again disappeared and hasn’t been seen since. This time Laurie has decided to liberate her fear and rage and embrace life with open arms. All is quiet in Haddonfield, but when a young man, Corey Cunningham, is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she couldn’t control, once and for all.
4. Michael Is Living In the Sewers
Halloween Ends takes place four years after Halloween Kills (2021), which saw Michael Myers emerge victorious after being beaten to a bloody pulp by the Haddonfield mob. But he’s obviously been hiding somewhere in that time. We can’t quite imagine Michael living in a regular house like a normal person, so it would make sense for him to go “dark”. And according to the latest trailer, that’s exactly what he appears to have done. In a montage sequence, we see Michael terrorizing a number of different teenage characters. One of them is Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), who Michael grabs around the throat in a dark sewer setting…
3. There are… Two Michaels?!
Halloween fans have been left very confused by both the Halloween Ends trailer and the official synopsis. While the trailer appears to be pretty straightforward with its cat-and-mouse approach, there’s a lot more than meets the eye. Throughout the trailer, there are many “clues” that might suggest there are two Michaels at large. And we don’t mean that the bogeyman has somehow been cloned, but rather that there is a copycat killer in Haddonfield. The next time you watch the trailer, keep an eye on everyone’s hands - you’ll see Corey Cunningham - the boy accused of murder - wearing a ring on his pinkie finger. And in one scene, we also see “Michael” with the same one…
2. It’s Going to Be the Most Divisive Halloween Movie
While it’s hard to imagine a movie more divisive than Halloween Kills, it looks like the concluding chapter in David Gordon Green’s trilogy is shaping up to be something that could easily split the fanbase down the middle. John Carpenter has said that the film is so far removed from the previous two movies, let alone the rest of the franchise, while even Jamie Lee Curtis has said that the ending of Halloween Ends will “anger fans”. Exactly what is meant by all of this is of course unknown, but it’s likely something to do with the Corey Cunningham storyline. Will Michael Myers die at the beginning of the movie, leaving Corey to take up the mantle?
1. It Will Be a More “Intimate” Movie Than Halloween Kills
Director David Gordon Green has previously described Halloween Ends as being a far more “intimate” movie than Halloween Kills, so we can expect something a lot quieter, simplistic, and with a much less broad scope. This can only be a good thing, as the 2021 sequel had far too much going on. Green has also compared the film to Christine (1983), which was also directed by John Carpenter (and based on the Stephen King book of the same name). While we don’t expect Halloween Ends to feature a possessed car, these comparisons likely relate to the character of Corey Cunningham, who might be “possessed” - or influenced, if we’re going for realism - by Michael Myers. Halloween Ends stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Will Patton, Andi Matichak, and James Jude Courtney, and Kyle Richards, who will be reprising their roles as Laurie Strode, Frank Hawkins, Allyson Nelson, Michael Myers, and Lindsey Wallace. Newcomers include Rohan Campbell (Corey Cunningham), Michael O’Leary (Dr. Mathis), while original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle is also expected to reprise his role as the killer (in part), having done so in both previous movies. The film will be released in theaters on October 14, 2022 by Universal Pictures. It is unknown at this time if it will release simultaneously on US streaming service Peacock like its predecessor Halloween Kills.
