The last leg of the Netflix TUDUM event was for the Japan showcase where Japanese shows and anime series got announcements and updates. One of the first titles announced during the event is Baku Yumemakura’s Onmyoji as it will be having an anime adaptation. Studio Marvy Jack will be handing the anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura’s Onmyoji which will be directed by Soubi Yamamoto, and written by Natsu Hashimoto and Yuiko Katō. Onmyoji is a historical fantasy series following the fictionalized version of the onmyōji Abe no Seimei during the Heian period. Abe no Seimei is a master of the traditional Japanese cosmology, also known as onmyōdō.

Onmyoji will follow the short stories and novels of the same name by Baku Yumemakura which first released in 1986 through Bungeishunju’s All Yomimono and it is still on circulation up to now. Onmyoji also has picture books with Yutaka Murakami’s illustrations. Onmyoji also has a manga adaptation by Reiko Okano which was published from 1993 to 2005 on the seinen manga magazine Comic Burger. The title has been widely adapted in Japan through three television dramas: a series in 2001, a television movie in 2015, and another TV film in 2020. There were also films of the same name by Yōjirō Takita in 2001 and 2003, a Chinese adaptation titled The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity in 2020 which was released on Netflix in 2021, and The Yinyang Master in 2021. There are also video games having the same title, Onmyoji. Baku Yumemakura’s Onmyoji anime adaptation will be released on Netflix in 2023.
