It’s no secret that Brendan Fraser is currently on a roll with a slew of awesome new projects. Fraser’s new projects originally included Batgirl before Warner Bros. decided to cancel the film and confirmed that it will not be released on any platform. Not surprisingly, Brendan Fraser is unhappy about the cancellation. While speaking to Variety, the Mummy actor admitted that he had big hopes for Batgirl. “It’s disappointing. The fans really wanted to see this film made,” Fraser said. He then added that he truly enjoyed seeing his co-star Leslie Grace become Barbara Gordon.
“I was there: Leslie Grace is a dynamo. She’s like a power Q-tip. She just goes for it. She looks great in the outfit,” Fraser said. He continued by stating that Batgirl was always meant to be screened on TV but this also contributed to the film’s downfall. “The movie itself was shot and conceived for a smaller screen. In this age that we’ve come out of now between streaming servers vs. theatrical release, it wound up being the canary in the coal mine,” Fraser said. It’s unfortunate that Batgirl will not be released for streaming or in theaters. Still, fans continue to hope that Warner Bros. will reconsider the decision and eventually release the film Batgirl was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah while Christina Hodson wrote the script. Brendan Fraser played Firefly opposite Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon. The movie also starred J. K. Simmons, Jacob Scipio, and Michael Keaton. Brendan Fraser’s latest film The Whale premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 4, 2022. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 9, 2022.
