According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Keaton only worked for a short time on Batgirl but that doesn’t mean he did it for free. “Keaton received $2 million for Batgirl, the $90 million film that Warner Bros. Discovery ultimately shelved, after participating in about a week’s worth of work, described by sources as a glorified cameo,” the report reads.
It’s an interesting revelation considering that fans were expecting Michael Keaton to play a larger role as Bruce Wayne in the film. However, it looks like Batman didn’t have much to do in the project. Although we won’t get to see just how “glorified” Michael Keaton’s cameo was in Batgirl, we’ll still get to see Bruce Wayne in action in other DC Extended Universe projects. The report also confirms that Keaton will show up in the sequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in addition to his confirmed appearance in The Flash. It’s unfortunate that Batgirl will not be released on any platform and we won’t get to see Leslie Grace in action as Barbara Gordon. Still, fans are holding on to hope that Warner Bros. Discovery will reconsider the decision and eventually release the film. Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, which is scheduled for release on June 23, 2023. He will then return in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom which is set to premiere on December 25, 2023.
