Here’s What Happened Before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 281
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 280 is titled Breakthrough, and it begins with Boruto confronting Kiseru about the deaths of Batta and Fugou, as well as his involvement with Ouga. Boruto also questions Kiseru about his hidden communications device, possibly explaining why he killed Batta. Kiseru, on the other hand, denied all of Boruto’s allegations, claiming that the latter trusts Rokuro more than him. Meanwhile, Shamo and Yatsume are assisting Namua while talking about Boruto. When Shamo realizes Namua’s wounds are much deeper than he imagined, he seeks the assistance of Rokuro, who informs him that an exit has been discovered. The gate suddenly closed in on them as Namua informed Yatsume that he was nearing the end of his life. Namua instantly uses his remaining strength to prevent the gate from closing, allowing Yatsume, Shamo, and Rokuro to leave. Boruto, on the other hand, pursues Kiseru only to find him using the communications device that Batta previously identified. While Kiseru offers his card to Boruto, the latter is only interested in learning who he truly is. When Rokuro, Yatsume, and Shamo arrive, they inform Boruto that Namua has died. As it turns out, Boruto’s allegations about Kiseru are all true, including how he is one of Ouga’s underlings. Kiseru also told lies to make his job easier, much to Yatsume’s disdain. Kiseru suddenly uses his fire style, Intense Flame Blast, to flee from everyone. Boruto and the others, as expected, decide to follow Kiseru to learn about the labyrinth’s exit. Kiseru led them to an underground cave where he was lying in wait. He intends to split everyone up and take them on one by one. True enough, Kiseru attacks Rokuro first, but only after Boruto arrives to assist him. Meanwhile, Sarada, Kawaki, and Mitsuki are confronted by four masked shinobi after returning to the trap site. Back in the cave, Kiseru attacks Yatsume before moving on to Shamo. Yatsume electrifies Kiseru with lightning jutsu, but her attack only aggravates her opponent. Boruto, thankfully, arrives to prevent Kiseru from harming Yatsume and Shamo. Kiseru flees, leaving a scroll on the ground. Shamo picks it up, recognizing the scroll as a mission order. Shamo discovers that Kiseru is not one of Ouga’s subordinates, which is why he must tell Boruto this information before Boruto engages Kiseru in combat. Sarada realizes that the four masked shinobi are not their enemies when they are revealed to be Anbu from the same village. They are elite Hidden Leaf ninjas who are part of a joint investigation team from the Five Great Nations. They are also investigating a recent string of disappearances that have occurred throughout the nation. While Sarada, Kawaki, and Mitsuki investigate Kiseru’s true identity, the Anbu reveals that he is a member of their investigation team. For the sake of their investigation, the Anbu sent Kiseru as an infiltrator. The Anbu also believes that the remnants of the Shell are to blame for the disappearances, which is why it is critical that Kiseru be sent as a spy given his status as an Outer. Furthermore, the Anbu reveals that it is not only Kiseru, but they have also sent selected shinobi for infiltration, but they all say the same thing: don’t believe anything. Unfortunately, like the previous ones before him, the Anbu never heard from Kiseru again. Sarada and the others wanted to help with the investigation, but the Anbu turned them down because it was against the rules for them to reveal mission orders, even if they trusted each other. Worse, they are unable to reveal their true identity, which can have disastrous consequences. Back in the cave, Kiseru realizes what everyone is saying about not believing anything. It means that no matter how much they struggle, they can’t escape this reality. Boruto becomes enraged at Kiseru for duping and sneering at them after hearing all of this. He starts fighting with Kiseru, but Shamo gets in the way. While Boruto was halting his Rasengan, Kiseru used a jutsu on Shamo’s back. Despite his injuries, Shamo tells Boruto that everything was a mistake. Kiseru, realizing that the labyrinth was nothing more than a genjutsu, stabbed Boruto in the abdomen with a kunai, much to the surprise of Yatsume and Rokuro, who had just arrived. Boruto abruptly awakens from his slumber and finds himself inside an experimental cubicle. He also realizes that everything up to this point has been a genjutsu.
