Boruto Uzumaki is heard saying that the age of shinobi is over, and it looks like Kawaki has a lot to do with that. However, it’s still unclear how this tragedy happens because the story immediately goes back four years in time to the beginning of Boruto’s journey as a shinobi. With that, the series clearly established that Boruto will certainly have a timeskip, however, fans are still wondering when the shonen series will enter its timeskip. There was a timeskip between the original Naruto series and Naruto: Shippuden, so it’s not surprising that Boruto will eventually get one. Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming timeskip in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations:

When is the timeskip in Boruto happening?

Right now, Shueisha, the publisher of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga series by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, hasn’t revealed when the series will enter a timeskip. However it’s likely that the manga series will not be as long as its predecessor, Naruto, so there’s a good chance that the timeskip will happen sooner than later. As of November 2022, there are 75 chapters of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and based on the story details revealed in the latest chapter, there are no signs that a timeskip will happen anytime soon. In Chapter 75, the manga revisited the tragic opening scene. It happens when Boruto appears to have a vision of the future moments after thoughts of momoshiki, who’s been inside Boruto’s mind, seems to overlap with Boruto’s thoughts. This vision appears to show that Kawaki has just betrayed Boruto and his friends. Shikadai, the son of Shikimaru, mentions how something that was done isn’t what friends do while Mitsuki, the son of Orochimaru, shows genuine emotions of hatred. Boruto artist Mikio Ikemoto previously mentioned that he intends to end the series around 30 volumes, so with more than 15 volumes out, the series has reached its halfway point, so it’s likely that a timeskip will happen soon, probably after the current Code Arc. The manga series will likely end in 2026, but Shueisha and the Boruto creators haven’t confirmed when they will wrap up its story.

What will happen after the timeskip in Boruto?

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will likely enter a timeskip soon, and that certainly means that readers of the manga series will likely see major things develop for the overarching plot of the shonen’s story. Currently, Code of the Kara organization is the biggest threat, and it seems that Boruto and Kawaki are nowhere close to his power levels, especially that his limiters have apparently been rescinded by Amado. The two fighters will need to train a lot to get to the level where they could match up to Code. There’s also Eida and Daemon, two powerful cyborgs with unique abilities. While their plans don’t exactly align with Code’s, they have assisted Code in achieving his ultimate goal: to cultivate the God Tree and siphon all the life energy on Earth to produce a Chakra Fruit and evolve into a god. Amado could also potentially become a major threat to Konoha. Boruto Chapter 71 revealed that Amado has his own goal, and that he needs Kawaki to accomplish that, supporting the theory that the former Kara scientist is actually be a major villain. The timeskip could also pave the way for Sarada Uchiha to awaken new abilities, such as her Mangekyo Sharingan. Sarada barely gets page time in recent manga chapters, so it’s likely that her major power-ups can come offscreen. Mitsuki could also become more powerful with Orochimaru’s help. We might also see Kawaki become a villain after the timeskip, so it’s likely that we will see Amado’s plan come to fruition with the help of him. Many fans are already speculating that Kawaki will fight Boruto after the timeskip, just like how Naruto ended up fighting Sasuke in Naruto: Shippuden. Speaking of Naruto and Sasuke, we might also see the two fighters become stronger after the timeskip, but at this point, it’s still unclear how they will become relevant to the major battles in the future of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
