Julius Onah recently spoke to Comicbook.com during the D23 Expo where he discussed what fans can expect in Captain America: New World Order. Not surprisingly, the director confirmed that the leadership role is new to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and this is something that will be explored in the MCU film. “Look, he is in a new position stepping up to be the leader as Captain America,” Onah said. “That’s going to be a new set of challenges for him, and in this story, a big part of his journey is, how do you define that leadership? That’s the thing he hasn’t had to deal with just yet.”
He added that Sam Wilson didn’t have to worry about being the leader in his former role. However, things have changed since the events in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. “As the Falcon, he was always there supporting the rest of the team, but now he’s the man leading the team, and I think that’s going to be a really exciting journey to go on with him,” Onah said. There is little doubt that taking the Captain America mantle was never easy for Sam. Still, we are expecting the former Falcon to find his way and truly live up to being Steve Rogers’ successor in Captain America 4. Captain America: New World Order will also star Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, who will reprise their respective roles of Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Incredible Hulk’s Tim Blake Nelson will return as Samuel Sterns / The Leader while Shira Haas will be introduced as Sabra. The film is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024.
