In the comics, the Thunderbolts are led by a patriotic anonymous person, Citizen V, who turns out to be Baron Zemo, and his friends, the Masters of Evil members, with the intention that the Thunderbolts would have to gain the trust of the public and sell to the criminals information of the heroes. Surprisingly, the roster of the Thunderbolts are revealed to have no Zemo in it as it will include their very own version of Nick Fury with Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Yelena Belova will reportedly be the leader of the team. Other members include Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/ The Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/ U.S. Agent, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/ Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko who plays the Taskmaster. After the reveal of the lineup of the Thunderbolts at the D23 Expo last month, Daniel Brühl finally breaks his silence on the absence of Helmut Zemo in the upcoming movie in an interview with RadioTimes.com.

Daniel Brühl tried to explain why but he couldn’t so he just sent out a reminder to everyone, “Even if I could… I couldn’t, you know. The only thing I can say, everybody knows – is I’m not dead!” In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the last time Zemo was seen is when he returned to the Raft, an underwater prison complex, and he was taken to it by the Dora Milaje. He was successful in helping the new Captain America, and the Winter Soldiers in the issue with the Flagsmashers. Thunderbolts will be arriving in theaters on July 26, 2024.
