Marvel’s Daredevil ran for three seasons, releasing all the episodes on Netflix between 2015 to 2018. The hit series also spawned a handful of programs set in the same TV universe, which included The Defenders, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. Despite the highly-positive response and a pitch from the showrunner for a fourth season, the series was cancelled after its third season. It has been four years since the show was cancelled on Netflix, but according to rumors, Charlie Cox will return as Daredevil in a fourth season produced by Marvel Studios. After all, the series returned to Nielsen’s Top 10 charts in December 2021, after new interest was sparked for the show, following the brief cameo of Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox), in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Murdock’s arch-nemesis, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) also appeared as a key part of Disney+’s Hawkeye storyline that week. Here’s everything you need to know about Daredevil: Born Again.
Why did Netflix cancel Daredevil after Season 3?
Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin in the show, recently opened up about why Netflix’s Daredevil show was cancelled after 3 seasons. Speaking to the Marvel News Desk podcast, the Daredevil star revealed why the show was cancelled, and how he and his fellow cast members reacted to the decision.
Daredevil: Born Again Confirmation Status: When was it announced.
Yes! On May 19, 2022, a new Daredevil TV series is confirmed to be in the works with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached to write and executive produce it, Variety reports. Corman and Ord most famously co-created the USA Network show Cover Affairs, which aired for five seasons between 2010 and 2014. At Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, Kevin Feige announced Daredevil: Born Again. It was also announced at the animation panel that Cox will return to voice Daredevil in the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which is set to release on Disney+ in 2024.
You can read all the rumors leading to the announcement below: In October 2021, Knight Edge Media shared a rumor that Marvel Studios is interested in reviving the Netflix series with the same cast, but their returns would mean as a soft reboot. This could mean that they would portray new versions of their respective characters, but that they would already be well-established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the events of Netflix’s Daredevil show would take place in an alternate universe while the MCU versions would essentially be different variants.
Warning: Major spoilers from Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead.
Rumors suggested that these characters would return via Disney+’s Hawkeye spin-off series Echo before getting their own movie or Disney+ TV series. According to rumors, Charlie Cox will reprise his Daredevil role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Those rumors finally proved to be true, with the Daredevil actors making their formal debuts in the MCU via two of the month’s major releases. D’Onofrio’s return to the MCU was teased in Hawkeye Season 1’s penultimate episode, with his character set to play a bigger role in the finale. Meanwhile, Cox made his highly-anticipated return with a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In December 2021, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed the casting in an interview with Cinemablend : “If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil.” However, Feige told the outlet there are no specific Daredevil projects officially confirmed.
In February 2022, Cox talked about his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home during his interview with HeyUGuys, and it was there, the he shared a story about an encounter he had in late 2019 with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. It turns out that the two met on Broadway one night, and according to Cox, Feige didn’t bring up Daredevil once. “I did a play in 2019 with Tom Hiddleston and Kevin Feige came to see our play,” Cox said. “And, Y’know, I went and shook hands with him and said hi and he said how much he enjoyed the play. Never mentioned Daredevil or anything like that. So it turns out he’s a very good liar as well.” Cox also said that he does know a “little bit” of what’s next for Daredevil, but he didn’t share any details about it Speaking to THR, Cox said, “Look, I don’t have any idea what anyone’s plans are at this stage, but I presume there’s more for us to do”. He continued: “I know a little bit — not a huge amount — but a little bit. I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we’ve done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he’s such an incredible actor. We have to start every conversation with, ‘What do you know?’ because you have to be careful. It’s really exciting.” In early April 2022, it was reported that Stacy’s Caballero’s website reveals that she worked on the upcoming Disney+ series Echo, which supposedly stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio alongside lead star Alaqua Cox. A quick look at Caballero’s other projects shows that she has worked on various projects for Marvel Studios and Disney productions, which lends authenticity to her contributions to the project, through it’s unknown how much of a potential role the actors have in the new series. The resume also reveals that the project is set to release in 2023. On May 17, Marvel Studios shared a first look at Echo, confirming its 2023 release date:
In July 2022, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that both Cox and D’Onofrio will reprise their roles in Marvel’s Echo.

Daredevil: Born Again Plot: What will it be about?
Currently, it’s impossible to tell what a potential Daredevil continuation story would be about. Rumors suggest that Marvel and Disney are interested in rebooting the characters’ stories, meaning that they may not have had all of the same experiences as the Netflix characters even though their versions are similar. When the characters make their debut in Echo, it’s likely that their TV project would be directly related to the events of the series. However, no plot details have been officially confirmed yet. When asked if Daredevil would work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sandbox, Charlie Cox is holding on to hope. “I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that,” Cox told ComicBook. “I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done [on the show]. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it.” When Cox was asked by IGN if Daredevil: Born Again will follow Mark Miller’s run, he said: In October 2022, Cox makes his first in-costume MCU appearance as Daredevil in the finale of Marvel’s She Hulk. Hanging in a bag on a railing was my suit that I recognized as the one I’d worn in the show before.” “While I was waiting, there was one computer-generated drawing on the wall of some other superhero,” he continued. “I was looking at it, like ‘Oh, that guy’s cool.’ And then I looked more carefully, and I was like, ‘Wait, that guy’s me.’ It was a rendering of this gold and red suit and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that is so cool.’ It’s such a great homage to some of the earlier Daredevil runs. I got goosebumps thinking about this moment, putting it on and the fans’ reaction.”
