Speaking with Vanity Fair, the Australian actress said that Disney has scrapped the project which she confirmed has been in development for a while. She explains: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it.“Also Read: Johnny Depp’s Rumored $301 Million Pirates of the Caribbean Deal DebunkedEarlier this year, producer Jerry Bruckheimer teased plans for the said project but it looks like it’s no longer happening. As it stands, Disney has yet to officially confirm the validity of Margot’s claims and what led to the project being canned. Interestingly, this comes just months after Johnny Depp won his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard after years of a heated back-and-forth.It’s worth noting that Disney reportedly offered Depp a multi-million deal to return as Jack Sparrow but it was later debunked. Of course, the idea of him returning to the franchise he helped put on the map isn’t exactly out of the question. If anything, it’s just a matter of whether or not Disney is willing to renegotiate with the actor. That said, every film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise are available to stream on Disney+.
