While the visual was already quite a surprise for fans of the show, this new minute-long Edens Zero Season 2 trailer is an even bigger treat as it shows off more of the show’s characters and settings, adding even more hype for the next season. In case you’re unfamiliar, Edens Zero is an anime series by J.C.Staff that’s based on the manga of the same name by Hiro Mashima, the creator of the popular Fairy Tail franchise. The manga is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine and it began serialization back in June 2018.
Its setting is the Grand Shiki Cosmos, a universe inhabited by humans, aliens, and robots. This universe is divided into four “cosmoses”, with each corresponding to one of the four seasons. In the Sakura Cosmos lives the main character Shiki, specifically on the deserted theme park planet of Granbell. The series’ story follows Shiki as he meets Rebecca Bluegarden, a B-cuber (the universe’s equivalent for YouTubers) along with her robot companion Happy.
Their arrival spurs the planet’s sentient robot inhabitants to drive them away. Soon, Rebecca and Happy are driven away, but Shiki joins them. Thus begins their journey through the universe inside the interstellar warship, the “Edens Zero”. Season 1 of the anime ran from April 11 to October 3, 2021, and consisted of 25 episodes. In Japan, the anime aired on Nippon TV. Meanwhile, the series is available to stream outside Japan on Netflix.
For the second season, the main voice cast from Season 1 returns, including Takuma Terashima as Shiki Granbell, Mikako Komatsu as Rebecca Bluegarden, Rie Kugimiya as Happy, Hiromichi Tezuka as Weisz Steiner, and Shiki Aoki as Homura Kougetsu. As for its staff, most of the staff members from Season 1 will return for the follow-up. Though Toshinori Watanabe is the new series director, replacing Season 1 director Yushi Suzuki as he passed away last year. Edens Zero Season 2 will premiere in April 2023. Right now, there’s no specific release date yet, nor is there info on where it will release outside Japan.
