Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #34 has finally been released and as usual, the mangakas shared the comments for the week. However, instead of dropping amusing quotes, everyone decided to play tribute to Kazuki Takahashi instead (via Twitter).
One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda celebrated Yu-Gi-Oh! perfectly. “Yu-Gi-Oh! is a revolution of manga!!! Fans will always continue to have fun in the world that Takahashi Sensei created. Rest in peace!” Oda wrote.
In contrast, My Hero Academia mangaka Kohei Horikoshi still can’t believe that Takahashi is gone. “I’m in shock,” Horikoshi wrote. “Rest in peace, Takahashi Sensei.”
Yuto Tsukoda, who is working on the One Piece spin-off Shokugeki no Sanji, had some touching words to share.
“I respect you from the bottom of my heart such a great work of art that has been loved by many generations of fans. Rest in peace, Kazuki Takahashi Sensei,” Tsukoda wrote.
While most of the posts have been emotional ones, Masaoki Shindo of Ruri Dragon left an amusing message that is addressed to both Takahashi and their own fans. “Takahashi Sensei, rest in peace. I’m sorry for taking so many breaks,” Shindo wrote. Shindo recently took a break from the manga and delayed the release of Chapter 6.
Takahashi passed away in early July, his body found in shallow waters off the coast of Nago City about 300 meters away from the shoreline. The mangaka’s snorkelling gear was still attached to his body which still had an underwater mask, a snorkel and fins. It has since been confirmed through an autopsy that drowning was the cause of death.
