Deadline confirms that the 47th Toronto Film Festival has chosen the Mary Harron-directed Dalíland as its closing-night movie. The movie stars Ben Kingsley as the older Salvador Dalí while Miller plays the younger Dalí. However, Miller’s name has been left off the cast credits in TIFF’s press release.
“We’re excited to premiere Mary Harron’s Dalíland as this year’s closing-night film,” TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said in a statement. “We couldn’t be prouder that Harron is a Canadian who has taken her singular explorations of iconic eccentrics to the world stage. In portraying the wild relationship between Salvador Dalí and his partner, Gala, Harron continues to keep moviegoing interesting and engaging.”
Daliland tells the story of the marriage between the genius Dalí and his wife, Gala, as their seemingly unshakable bond begins to stress and fracture after several years together. The story is told through the eyes of James, a young assistant keen to make his name in the art world, who helps the eccentric and mercurial Dalí prepare for a big gallery show in the early 70s.
Although Ezra Miller’s name does not appear in the cast credits, Deadline confirms that his scenes are still in the movie. Nevertheless, it appears that TIFF wants to keep its distance from the actor amidst all the controversies.
Ezra Miller’s most recent controversy involves a burglary charge in Vermont where the actor had reportedly broken into an unoccupied house.
