Recently, Iginio Straffi, creator of Fate: The Winx Saga, expressed his disappointment on the cancellation of the series on Netflix but he wouldn’t let go of the title so easily that he revealed that there is a new animated series and live-action movie about to arrive for the title. Speaking with Variety, Straffi revealed that the Winx movie is budgeted with more than $100 million and he said that it is “probably the most important project of my entire career.” Straffi also shared that a part of the finances will come from the cancelled Netflix series, “We started with the TV series, which had a more accessible budget and was a bit easier to finance. Netflix believed in it and I think they got a good return.” Straffi teased what the new Winx movie will be about, “These will comprise not just the characters’ relationships in school — which are a big part of what the Netflix series revolves around — but the franchise’s more epic fantasy aspect: transformations, battles with witches, the Trix.”

The new Winx movie is not a spin-off of Fate: The Winx Saga, but rather, it is more on the direct adaptation of the source material, the original Winx Club series. Aside from the upcoming movie, Straffi is also eyeing for the animated series reboot of the cartoon series of Winx Club which has been one of the favorites some 20 years ago. Straffi wants it to be family-oriented as well. Fate: The Winx Saga follows Bloom as she tries to learn about her true identity and she finds out she can control fire. Bloom is revealed to have the Dragon Flame, an ancient power, which is also connected to the cartoon version, Winx Club. Along with Bloom are the following: Stella, the light fairy; Musa, the empath fairy; Terra, the Earth fairy; Aisha, the water fairy; and Flora, the nature fairy. The movie is expected to introduce more fairies and possibly even Techna, the fairy of technology, and Roxy, the fairy of Animals. There is no release date yet for the Winx movie.
