The official Jump Festa Twitter account shared the statement regarding the Jujutsu Kaisen Super Stage this December. According to the statement, Takahiro Sakurai’s appearance on the stage has been cancelled. Although the statement included an apology, the reason for Sakurai being removed from the lineup was not revealed.
“Takahiro Sakurai, who was scheduled to appear on the Super Stage of Jump Festa 2023 on Saturday, December 17, 2022, will no longer make an appearance,” the statement read. “We apologize for the inconvenience.” Although the statement didn’t confirm the reason for Takahiro Sakurai’s appearance being cancelled, fans were quick to point out that Jump Festa is choosing to keep their distance from the voice actor following Sakurai’s recent controversies.
It was previously reported that Takahiro Sakurai had confirmed allegations of a decade-long extramarital affair. Although he had issued an apology on his agency’s website, there have been speculations that Sakurai’s numerous roles in several ongoing anime will be recast. Sakurai is known for his roles as Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass, X in Mega Man X, Maximilien Robespierre in Le Chevalier D’Eon, Hiltz in Zoids: Guardian Force, Sasori in Naruto Shippūden, and Rohan Kishibe in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. He currently provides the voices for Reigen Arataka in Mob Psycho 100, Sae Itoshi in Blue Lock, and Tsubame Ozuno in Urusei Yatsura. It is still unclear whether Sakurai will be recast in Jujutsu Kaisen where he plays Suguru Geto and Demon Slayer where he portrayed Giyu Tomioka. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
