Han Hyo Joo to Possibly Join Joo Ji Hoon in Dominant Species
Interestingly, in the same report, a representative from Han Hyo Joo’s agency BH Entertainment confirmed that the actress is courted to lead the cast and is positively reviewing the offer. It can be recalled that Joo Ji Hoon was also offered back in June and is yet to confirm his appearance. The upcoming sci-fi series is penned by Strangers and Grid screenwriter Lee Soo Yeon. It follows the story of a world where viruses and superior genes are vital and humans consume food in pill form. Besides the cast members, the target release date and broadcast network are yet to be confirmed.

If Joo Ji Hoon officially accepts the offer, Dominant Species will be his next project after Jiirisan. The 40-year-old actor gained fame after landing the role of the crown prince in Goong, also known as Princess Hours, opposite Yoon Eun Hye. At the height of his popularity, Joo Ji Hoon made headlines after being found guilty of using ecstasy and ketamine in 2009, resulting in him being banned from South Korea’s three major broadcasting networks MBC, KBS, and EBS. With this, he was sentenced to six months of jail time and, unfortunately, suspended for one year. On top of it, he had to accomplish 120 hours of community service and pay a fine of 360,000 KRW. After his suspension was lifted, he began to recover from his slump and headline various K-dramas and movies, including Mask, Along With the Gods, and Netflix’s Kingdom, which gained massive popularity worldwide. As for Han Hyo Joo, the actress recently starred in the hit K-zombie series Happiness with Park Hyung Sik. Interestingly, the thriller mystery K-drama received overwhelming praise after it was aired on Netflix and immediately entered the top 10 tv shows at the time. For her recent projects, Han Hyo Joo also joined the star-studded cast of The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure, where she played Son Ye Ji’s previous character. Of course, the 35-year-old actress did not disappoint viewers as she flawlessly delivered playing Captain Hae Rang. Unfortunately, just like Joo Ji Hoon, Han Hyo Joo also faced a series of issues at the prime of her career. In 2013, she was blackmailed by her former manager after he illegally transferred 16 photos of Han Hyo Joo and her ex-boyfriend from her digital camera to his mobile phone. The actress was threatened by her former manager to release the private photos if Han Hyo Joo resisted paying 400 million KRW. A year later, the actress faced the biggest scandal of her career. At the time, her brother got involved in a controversy and was accused of bullying a soldier during his military service, causing the victim to commit suicide. The incident had a massive effect on her image as an actress. The issue got so serious that Han Hyo Joo’s films and series were boycotted. The scandal also prompted the actress to go on a hiatus and remain silent for 3 years. Thankfully, she managed to bounce back and return with remarkable K-dramas and movies. After her years of hiatus and various scandals, the movie The Beauty Inside and rom-com series W with Lee Jong Suk gained much praise from the public. Now, besides an upcoming team-up with Joo Ji Hoon, she is also set to headline Believer 2 with Cha Seung Won and Jo Jin Woong. In addition, she will also lead the cast of the soon-to-be-released webtoon-based K-drama Moving alongside veteran actors Jo In Sung, Ryu Seung Ryong, and Alchemy of Souls star Go Yoon Jung.
