Empire recently sat down with the Star Wars icon to discuss the upcoming project where he revealed his initial inhibitions about agreeing to reprise his Indiana Jones role, over a decade after the last film. While he said that he was interested in seeing how Indy is after all these years as long as he was presented with a good story, he did admit that doing a fifth film felt unnecessary for him. However, despite his apparent disinterest in returning as the “half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder”, a character he always thought was “one-dimensional”, he still agreed to return for two films under the divisive trilogy. It’s almost safe to assume that Indiana Jones 5 will mark the end of Ford’s storied tenure as the iconic archeologist. If that wasn’t obvious enough, Disney and Lucasfilm are said to be developing a series centered on the character which would likely serve as a reboot for the franchise.Indiana Jones 5 is currently slated for theatrical release on June 30, 2023.
