In the same Happy Sad Confused podcast interview with Josh Horowitz, where Henry Cavill responded to House of the Dragon season 2 casting rumor, the actor also responded to Stephenie Meyer wanting him for Edward Cullen’s role. While the actor had figured out the internet tool too late, he admits it would have been cool if he had played the vampire in the franchise. Read his full quote below:

Back in 2018, Buzzfeed managed to come across Stephenie Meyer’s website upon honoring Twilight’s 10th anniversary, where the website revealed she had hoped for Henry Cavill to pull off Edward Cullen. Meyer says Cavil was ‘the only actor I’ve ever seen who I think could come close to pulling off Edward Cullen’ and upon realizing Cavill back then would have been too old to play Edward, she would have casted him as Carlisle, with Tom Sturridge or Logan Lerman working for Edward.
Seeing as Twilight is a franchise, Henry Cavill would most likely have had to stick to the series as Edward Cullen up until Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, which was released in 2012. If he had indeed committed to Stephenie Meyer’s saga, who knows if he would have still been able to become Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel? It is quite interesting to think how his career would have turned out if he had been Edward Cullen instead of Robert Pattinson.
