Who Shot Makima?
One of the attackers working with the Gun Devil shoots Makima in the head. This attacker is a member of Team C, which Makima eliminated one by one in exchange for the Japanese prisoners who had been given life sentences. Makima and other devil hunters were scheduled to attend a luncheon meeting with the organization’s higher-ups when the attack started on a shinkansen (bullet train) traveling towards Kyoto. The passengers behind them pulled out their firearms in the middle of their conversation and started shooting them one by one. As a result, Team C confirms Makima’s demise to the other teams, including Akane Sawatari and the Katana Man, as she lies dead in the passenger seat. Denji and the others were attacked by the Katana Man in Tokyo, while Kobeni and Arai came face to face with an elderly woman brandishing a gun. Along with the other unfortunate devil hunters from Special Divisions 1, 2, 3, and 4, Himeno and Arai perished in the attack.
How Does Makima Survive Being Shot?
Makima survives being shot in the head with no wounds at all and only blood splatters on her devil hunter outfit. She is able to survive the attack because of a contract she has with the Japanese Prime Minister, which allows her to divert or inflict her fatal wounds on any random Japanese citizen who is suffering from a terminal illness. The fact that it would take the entire nation of Japan to put Makima to death suggests that she is almost indestructible. She met with Kyoto’s devil hunters like Kurose and Tendo after escaping the assault. She gave them three orders: get her a change of clothes, reserve a nearby shrine with a high elevation, and borrow 30 criminals from the Ministry of Justice who are serving at least life sentences. Makima orders the 30 criminals crouching on the ground to have their eyes blindfolded, along with Kurose and Tendo. Because Makima is a devil hunter working for the Cabinet Secretary, Kurose and Tendo are not permitted to know what kind of devil contract she will be using. But for the 30 criminals, they are waiting for death to arrive along with the names of the people Makima asked them to repeat. These names belong to the people who attacked Tokyo’s Public Safety Devil Hunter Special Divisions. Soon after, Team C and Team E of the assailants were wiped out, much to the surprise of Akane Sawatari and the Katana Man, who believed that Makima had died. Can Makima Die?
Yes, Makima can still die or be killed in Chainsaw Man, but doing so will require considerable skill and power. By this point, everyone is aware that Makima is the Control Devil, and by the end of the Control Devil arc, she will be in conflict with Denji and the others. Even though Makima is an unstoppable force who has survived 26 deaths before the Gun Devil attack and can resurrect repeatedly, she is still a devil that the Chainsaw Man can devour and stop from ever resurrecting. True enough, Denji used the chainsaw made from Power’s blood to kill Makima. As a result, her ability to regenerate was hindered by the chainsaw, allowing Denji to consume her piece by piece. Denji put his life in danger to keep Makima inside of him and make sure she wouldn’t be able to return. When Kishibe told Denji that the Control Devil had returned as a young girl named Nayuta, Denji knew that Makima had passed away. In order to prevent Japan from ever using Nayuta (also known as the new Control Devil) in the same way they did with Makima, Kishibe asked Denji to keep an eye on her.
