While the series’ hiatus was not officially announced yet, several manga news insiders have revealed details about the series’ plans following the 400th chapter. Given author Yoshihiro Togashi’s health issues, it’s no surprise that Hunter x Hunter is going on another hiatus. Though Shonen Jump’s editorial department reiterated its goal of supporting the manga until its completion.
Hunter x Hunter’s Next Hiatus
Hunter x Hunter is one of the two titles in Weekly Shonen Jump that date back to the 90s alongside One Piece. Despite being decades old, the series has just around 400 chapters as its author suffers from health problems. Because of his health, Togashi has gone on multiple lengthy hiatus periods. The last hiatus is the longest one by far as it took nearly four years before the next manga chapter was released. Specifically, Chapter 390 was released back in November 2018. The follow-up chapter was then released in late October of this year, complete with a Manga Plus simultaneous release outside Japan. Aside from returning to a weekly serialization, all Hunter x Hunter chapters were also made available on Shonen Jump. Meanwhile, the latest volume which compiled Chapters 381 to 390 was also released. Now though, after one volume’s worth of chapters, Hunter x Hunter will enter another hiatus. Much like previous breaks, there’s no word on how long fans will have to wait before they see the next chapter’s release. Hunter x Hunter Future Release Plans
According to reports, the editorial department at Shonen Jump is determined to support Togashi until the Hunter x Hunter manga ends. Though when the series will end remains to be seen. It was also mentioned that the series will be published in a non-weekly format. The editorial department did not clearly state their plans, but a possible interpretation is that new chapters might be released whenever they’re ready. Based on Togashi’s Twitter updates, it seems that he continually works on new Hunter x Hunter chapters, but its recent return only happened when 10 chapters were completed. It’s possible that this batch release won’t be followed moving forward. But another interpretation is that Shonen Jump will wait for another 10 finished chapters before returning to another 10-week serialization run. For the manga’s specific release details though, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement.
