The announcement of the latest volume release was made via the official Shonen Jump Twitter account, and it revealed the contents and the release date of the next volume in Japan.
The last Hunter x Hunter volume was Volume 36 which was released in Japan back in October 2018, followed by an August 2019 release in English by VIZ Media. This previous volume contained Chapters 371 to 380. Following the announcement, fans reacted with joy online, with the Shonen Jump tweet announcement getting over 400k likes and over 160k retweets. Fans on Reddit also reacted positively to the news, with fans hoping that this means new chapters might be released soon. In case you’re wondering why the volume release announcement is getting a lot of buzz, that’s because Hunter x Hunter has been on a hiatus for years now, with the last chapter being released back on November 26, 2018. Hunter x Hunter is a manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho. It started serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump back in March 1998. Initially, the series was published at a regular pace with minimal breaks. But due to Togashi’s health issues, the series has gone on hiatus for longer periods of time starting in 2006.
A few months ago, Togashi shared an update on his health, and he’s still struggling with back issues. Despite this, Togashi is continuing to work on the next chapters of the manga, with new updates consistently being shared on his personal Twitter account. As for the upcoming volume, Hunter x Hunter Volume 37 will include Chapters 381 to 390 of the manga. These chapters are the last 10 to be released on Weekly Shonen Jump that haven’t been compiled in volume format yet. This means the new volume release will not contain new chapters. Though fans are hoping that the upcoming release means that the next batch of chapters might be released soon. Right now, Volume 37 is confirmed to release on November 4, 2022, in Japan. There’s no word yet on when the volume will be released in English by VIZ Media.
