And after a cliffhanger ending in season two, many can’t help but look forward to the third season. But when will it be released? Here’s what we know about Emily in Paris Season 3 right now.
Has Emily in Paris Season 3 Been Renewed?
Good news! In January 2022, Netflix announced that they have renewed Emily in Paris for a third and fourth season. This means that the show will be returning for at least two more seasons. The production team shared a short clip on Instagram celebrating this big announcement. The show’s lead actress, Lily Collins, also turned to Instagram to update her avid fans. The actress wrote: “Woke up early to give you some VERY exciting news… @emilyinparis is back for Season 3… AND wait for it, Season 4!!!!! I can’t tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she’d be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!…”
Emily in Paris Season 3 Release Date
A few months after the announcement, production began for season three. In June 2022, Netflix shared a photo of their table read of the first script for season three. The caption read: “Back at a table together, and it’s not for a client meeting or a dinner party. production on season 3 is starting now!” Lily Collins and her show BFF, Mindy (played by Ashley Park) were also photographed together in Paris in early June. This indicated that the have started filming their roles together in the City of Lights. As of this writing, filming is currently in progress. We have not received any word that they have wrapped up shooting the scenes for Emily in Paris Season 3. Looking at the show’s filming history, however, they normally take two months to complete. For the second season, production started in May 2021 and ended in July 2021. The production status then went into post-production. We don’t know how long it usually stays in that stage so we can’t know for sure when to expect the third season to be released. But as for filming, it’s possible that they are wrapping things up by now. If post-production takes five months, we could expect the Emily in Paris Season 3 release date sometime in January 2023. In September 2022, Netflix released official photos of Emily in Paris Season 3.
Judging by these pictures, we get the sense that Emily has decided to stay in Paris and give her romance with Alfie a shot. At the Netflix Tudum 2022 event, Netflix revealed that the show will make its premiere on December 21, 2022.
Emily in Paris Season 3 Story
When Emily in Paris Season 2 ended, it left its viewers with a major cliffhanger involving Emily’s personal life and career. Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) had just quit Savoir and was inviting Emily to join her new agency. But there’s the other option of returning to the US to continue working with Savoir. As for her lovelife, Emily is torn between trying to make her long distance relationship with Alfie (played by Lucien Laviscount) work or admitting her feelings to Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo) and possibly losing her friend, Camille (played by Camille Razat), for good in the process. The finale left us with Emily calling Sylvie and saying: “I’ve made my decision.” And we’ve been waiting for what feels like forever to know what that decision is.
At this point, however, we can’t help but feel like we already know what Emily’s choice will be. After all, the cast and crew are still in Paris and filming their scenes. But it’s what happens after she makes those decisions that matter the most. In an interview with TVLine, creator Darren Star shared: “She’s faced with a major decision. She has reasons to pick a number of doors at the end of season 2, and our challenge is deciding which of those doors she’s going to choose and why. That’s what season 3 is going to be about. When you live in a foreign country, one of the questions is, where’s your heart? Is it the place you came from, or the place you are at the moment? Emily is going to be struggling with that as well.”
In another interview with Elle magazine, Star said: “There’s no choice that’s gonna make everything better and please everybody. And I think Emily also is … a bit of a people pleaser, and she’s gonna make a decision that’s gonna make some people unhappy. And she’s gonna have to deal with that also next season.” As for Lily Collins, the actress told Elle magazine that “there are pros and cons to each. I think Emily is blown away that Sylvie would want her to come with her. And then at the same time, she now has found this relationship with Alfie and…maybe she’d love to go to London. It’s only a Eurostar train ride away. So I don’t know. I think that there would be fun in both of those elements at the same time. Is there a world where there could be both? You don’t know. I think in the world of Emily, anything is possible.”
Emily in Paris Season 3 Cast
In April 2022, Lucien Laviscount was promoted to series regular for the third season despite his role returning to London. Star told TVLine that he “wouldn’t write Alfie off, and Emily should, either.” So far, this is the only major change made to the main cast. Most of the actors will be returning to reprise their roles:
Lily Collins (as Emily Cooper)
Lucas Gabriel (as Gabriel)Ashley Park (as Mindy Chen)Camille Razat (as Camille)Lucien Laviscount (as Alfie)Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (as Sylvie)Kate Walsh (as Madeline Wheeler)Bruno Gouery (as Luc)Samuel Arnold (as Julian)
In November 2022, it was announced that two new actors will be joining the show. Paul Forman will play the role of a heartthrob who also happens to be a crown prince. The other actress joining Emily in Paris Season 3 is Melia Kreiling who will be an artist in the show.
