The series is actually a spinoff that has been expanded from the hit comic/movie saga, Thor. Season 1 gave avid fans a chance to look into the mischievous character who has long been portrayed as a layered villain. Tom Hiddleston carried the role in the miniseries efficiently, which is no surprise that Season 2 is in the works. But what else do we know about Loki Season 2?
Loki Season 2 Release Date
When Loki Season 2 was first confirmed in July 2021, Hiddleston told Marvel: “I am so grateful that we got to do season one, I still am not quite able to process that we get to have another go at this. I am so excited by the possibilities. We are already in discussions. Deep, deep, deep discussions. I can’t wait to get started.” The titular star also went on to thank the audience. “I hope season one was full of surprises. And I think season two will be full of even more.” Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ President, said that while the new season was underway, he wasn’t sure when filming would start. The executive said that filming could begin in 2022 or 2023. The good news is, Loki Season 2 has started filming their scenes in London. A set photo confirming this was shared by cinematographer Isaac Bauman in June. While filming has began, there’s no word yet on when the second season will premiere. Some believe that it will premiere after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released. This is because Season 1 finale introduced Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who is actually the antagonist in Ant-Man 3. The movie is said to be released in February 17, 2023. For context, Loki Season 1 was released in June 2021. It’s possible that the miniseries could be released in the first half of 2023 too.
Loki Season 2 Cast & Crew
There are some changes in store for the creative team behind Loki Season 2. For starters, Kate Herron will no longer be directing the miniseries. Herron told Deadline that she’s “really happy to watch it as a fan next season.” Another report revealed that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will be joining the team. They will be co-directing “majority of the episodes for Season 2.” As for the writers, Michael Waldron will no longer be the head writer. Even though he will still be a writer for Season 2, Eric Martin will take over the role. The main cast have reprised their roles for Loki Season 2:
Tom Hiddleston (as Loki)Sophia Di Martino (as Sylvie Laufeydottir)Jonathan Majors (as Nathaniel Richards/Kang the Conqueror)Gugu Mbatha-Raw (as Ravonna Renslayer)Owen Wilson (as Mobius M. Mobius)Ke Huy QuanWunmi Mosaku (as Hunter B-15)Eugene Cordero (as Casey)Tara Strong (voice for Miss Minutes)
There are rumors that Henry Cavill will be joining the Loki Season 2 cast as Hyperion. Rafael Casal has also been rumored to join for an undisclosed role. Meanwhile, during Disney’s D23 2022 expo, it was announced that Ke Huy Quan will be joining the cast. His role has not yet been revealed. We’ll update the list once more cast members become official.
Loki Season 2 Plot: What Will It Be About?
After expressing his excitement about the show getting a second season, Hiddleston has kept a tight lip. Mbatha-Raw, on the other hand, showed excitement on her character going to “some deeper, darker places.” There really isn’t any information yet on what the second season will be about. The internet, however, is filled with fan theories. This is largely because the first season left its viewers with a cliffhanger. Now that Loki is left stranded in a different dimension, how will things transpire with an even more menacing variant of his archenemy, He Who Remains (aka Kang the Conqueror)? And to recall, both Mobius and Hunter B-15 don’t know who Loki is in this timeline. There’s also the fact that Sylvie started a multiverse war, but could be the only one who remembers who Loki is. There are other fan theories suggesting Season 2 will follow the comic book format where Ravonna will be the love interest of Kang. Another theory suggests that Loki could work with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wanda/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Again, all of these are simply fan theories. Nothing official has been released by Marvel Studios yet.
Where to Watch Loki Season 2 Trailer
Considering Loki Season 2 just started filming, it could be a while before an actual trailer will be released. Once it becomes available, Loki Season 2 will stream exclusively on Disney Plus. For the meantime, you can take a look at this video released by Disney Plus in appreciation for the God of Mischief. The video features various clips of Tom Hiddleston rocking his most-famous character to date. During the 2022 D23 Expo, Loki Season 2 released an exclusive clip behind closed doors. According to GamesRadar, the footage “has a creepy vibe to it” where the face of Kang (played by Jonathan Major) was seen behind a wall and it Mobius appears. After that, Loki says he saw “terrible, awful things being ripped across time.” We’ll have to wait for this exclusive clip to be released to the public.
