James Gunn and Peter Safran may have just recently begun to embark on a new journey together as co-heads of DC Studios on November 1, 2022, but Gunn was quick to address a fan’s concern about their plans, asking if they plan to replace Robert Pattinson’s Batman that ‘fits’ into the DC Universe. To that, Gunn responded via Mastadon, screenshot from CBR:
“All DC titles are under DC studios.”
Interestingly, this might imply that Gunn is planning to apply the Marvel Cinematic Universe formula where every story they put out will be connected in the same universe. This could lead to more collaborations and interconnected stories among Henry Cavill’s Superman, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and Robert Pattinson’s Batman, to name a few.
James Gunn was known for delivering one of the most promising team of unlikely misfits in the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 (grossing $94.3 million) with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 surpassing its predecessor ($146.5 million). Although he had been fired from Marvel Studios back in 2018 due to his past problematic tweets, he is still set to finish his last project in the MCU, which is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Although the future of the DC Universe remains a mystery, fans can read more updates on this story here on EpicStream.
James Gunn’s final project in the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
