A lot of DC fans have also been petitioning that the studio will release the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad similar to what they did to Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well as renew the CW series Legends of Tomorrow for another season after its cancellation earlier this year and prompted a campaign to save the series. Will the new regime of DC Studios consider both of those petitions? Yesterday, Gunn tweeted a series of threads on Twitter where he addressed both petitions. While he didn’t definitively mention whether they will take action, he did assure fans that they are “listening” and “open to everything” as they are now figuring out the future of the DCU. “Opened up Twitter at the end of a long, creative weekend to see the many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow & #ReleaseTheAyerCut & fan support for other DC projects over the years. The majority of these requests were enthusiastic & respectful,” Gunn wrote.
“As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter & I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC. Although our ability to interact on Twitter has been lessened due to the workload of our new positions, we are listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey, & will continue to do so for the next few years.” The co-head of DC Studios went on to tease their plans for the future of the DCU where they said that they intend to focus on “the story going forward” and “hammering out the new DCU” across films, TV, and animation. He continued, “But all our initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects. We invite all of the DC fandoms from across the multiverse — and everyone else as well — into this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.” Based on the comments, it sounds like Gunn doesn’t have any actual plans to consider both fan petitions although he did leave the door open that they might still happen. Right now, the most important for them is to figure out the next path for the franchise now that they’re officially in position. We should be hearing more news and updates about their plans for the DCU in the next several months since they just started and it is likely that they’re still in the early stages of their official plans for the future of the franchise.
