Recently, during the world premiere event for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige broke his silence on Gunn’s DC hiring in which he welcomed the news and showed his excitement for the director while also pointing out that he still has two upcoming projects to finish for them. Today, Gunn himself has also addressed his current relationship with Feige as a result of his hiring as the new DC boss when he responded to a fan on Twitter that asked whether he “hates” the Marvel boss. Not only the director settled the debate by saying that Marvel and DC don’t have any rivalry due to their common goal of saving the theatrical business, but he also revealed that Feige was the first person that he told the news after the deal became official for his hiring as the new co-head of DC Studios.
“Not only do I love Kevin, he was the 1st person I told after I did the deal with DC (@JohnCena was the 2nd). Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC & Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant & alive!,” Gunn wrote. It is great to see the new DC boss settling the fan debate that there is an existing rivalry between the two comic book movie studios and, hopefully, more people will have this mentality. While the two might be competing since they tackle the same type of content, the success between both is beneficial to the moviemaking business in general. In addition, as he is serving his duties for DC, Gunn is also currently working on two upcoming Marvel projects which are The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which alone is proof that the rivalry between them is non-existent.
