The Kaimu Farmer’s Market Facebook page recently posted about the Chief of War production, confirming that the crew has requested to use their market area for a second Saturday in December. They then confirmed that the market will be closed for 2 weeks in December, which will be the 3rd and the 10th.
It didn’t take long before people reacted strongly to the news, with some saying Jason Momoa is the one person to thank for putting farmers out of work for two weeks. Since then, a manager of the market told TMZ that the production crew is not reimbursing the market or the vendors for the time off. “We have not been in conversation with them at all as they are leasing the property from the property managers just as we lease the property for the Saturday market,” they said. “We were told about 6 weeks ago that the property manager was not allowing us to hold the market on the 3rd of December and about 3 weeks ago informed us that we would not be using the property for the 3rd or the 10th. We were not given a choice.” “It hits us farmer’s the worst because we now have no venue to sell eggs, for instance,” they continued. “The chickens keep laying whether we have a market or not.”
Chief of War will be a historical drama that depicts the unification and colonization of Hawaii from the perspective of its indigenous occupants. The series will star Jason Momoa, who will be reunited with Aquaman castmate Temuera Morrison. For now, Chief of War has not been given an official release date but is expected to premiere on Apple TV+ in 2023.
