Now, in his recent Instagram post, director Todd Phillips has confirmed that filming for Joker: Folie à Deux has finally started. Not only that, he gave us our first look photo at Phoenix’s return in the role where his beard is being shaved by someone who looks like an Arkham Asylum staff. You can check his post here:
However, if you’re waiting for a first-look image at Lady Gaga’s role in the film, you may have to wait a little longer as Phillips revealed in the comments that the singer-actress will begin filming her scenes after New Year. The plot details are currently being kept under wraps, except that Phoenix is reprising the iconic DC villain. Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn while Zazie Beetz will reprise her role of Sophie Dumond from the first film. It is also reportedly going to be a musical. In addition, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey also joined the cast in undisclosed roles. Phillips returns to helm the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. Unlike the other DC projects that are currently in the works, this will not be part of the DCU franchise under DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. It is exciting to hear that filming for the sequel has already started as a lot of fans have been looking forward to it ever since it was officially announced. While they didn’t give out any plot details, we should be hearing more updates and information in the coming months as the filming goes on. Joker: Folie à Deux is slated for release in theaters on October 4, 2024. You can check more details about it here.
