Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – A Unique Twist to the “Will-They, Won’t-They” Romcom Trope
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is a romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. The manga was initially published from May 2015 to January 2016 in Miracle Jump, but it was transferred to Weekly Young Jump beginning in March 2016. The manga’s popularity exploded after it received an anime series adaptation by A-1 Pictures. Season 1 of the anime aired in Winter 2019, followed by a second and a third season that aired in Spring 2020 and Spring 2022, respectively. Aside from being popular, the anime is also well-received. Currently, Season 3 is ranked number 2 in the MyAnimeList top anime of all time ranking, just below Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. As for its story, the series follows Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya, the President and Vice President of the elite Shuchiin Academy high school, respectively. While initially formal with each other given their positions, the two soon develop feelings for each other. But for six months, neither of them makes a move due to their pride. Because of this, Miyuki and Kaguya decide to make the other confess through various complicated schemes. But as you may expect, these schemes are often foiled by themselves or by the rest of the Student Council members. ALSO READ: Is Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Seinen?
