The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power unveiled a new trailer during its SDCC 2022 panel and it offers several sinister glimpses at what appears to be Anson Boon’s mystery character. Several fans have pointed out that Boon’s robes and fiery tricks make him look a lot like Annatar, Sauron’s alter ego during the Second Age.
However, there’s another familiar face that people are comparing the character to. With the short blond hair and moody scowl, netizens are pointing out that “Sauron” looks like Marshall Mathers aka Slim Shady aka Eminem.
All jokes aside, it’s important to remember that Anson Boon’s character in The Rings of Power has not yet been revealed. In addition to that, co-showrunner J.D. Payne insists that Sauron’s appearance will not be as obvious as we’d expect. “We can say that when [Sauron] appears, it might be in a way people aren’t expecting,” Payne said. For now, we’re not sure if the Eminem-lookalike is actually Sauron. After all, the Dark Lord is a shapeshifter and could take any form that works for him. It’s possible that this is one of the many forms he will take in The Rings of Power this September.
