Deadline reports a secret Star Wars film is in development according to Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and Lucasfilm, and has hired one of Ms. Marvel’s directors, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (who helmed Episodes 4 and 5 of the hit MCU series). Lindelof, on the other hand, is set to pen the film’s script. Sources for Deadline also stated the chosen director for the new Star Wars film must have the filmmaker’s vision incorporated into the script.
The last Star Wars film premiered in 2019 which was Star Wars Episode IX: the Rise of Skywalker, and since then, the studio has become more focused on its TV projects, one of them being Andor streaming on Disney+. However, Lucasfilm said that a number of films are in development including this one and they are assuring the audiences that the next series of films will drive stories they would be happy with instead of rushing the next franchise. Plot-wise, the upcoming Star Wars film is being kept under wraps, still. There have been speculations surrounding Star Wars Episode X while expecting Rey to continue her journey after becoming a Skywalker. But considering Star Wars trilogies have huge gaps in between, it would be safe to assume that Episode X is still years away.
