Obviously, this made the 24-year-old actress more vulnerable to criticism, and just recently, she faced her biggest controversy yet. Sydney recently faced backlash for photos she and her brother posted on social media taken during their mother’s 60th birthday celebration.
What looked to be a series of harmless images drew massive heat from fans after several people were seen wearing MAGA parody caps reading “Make Sixty Great Again”. Some attendees were also spotted wearing “Blue Lives Matter” shirts. For the uninitiated, it is a countermovement in response to Black Lives Matter that basically protects the bad image and perception of cops.Sweeney’s post quickly became a hot topic online and she was vilified by fans for choosing to post the said images. The actress immediately responded to the political backlash, saying the “innocent” celebration was turned into a “political statement”. She also urged her critics to stop making assumptions just because of what they see online. Sydney wrote: “You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”
