In the most recent episode of Markle’s podcast, she discussed the “angry Black woman” stereotype with Issa Rae and Ziew. I am 43-percent Nigerian,” Markle said in the podcast, Sky News reported. “No way! Oh my gosh! Are you really serious?” Ziwe replied. Prince Harry’s wife added that she doesn’t know what tribe her ancestors came from but plans to “dig deeper into all of this.” “Anyone that I have told, especially Nigerian women are just like, ‘What?’” she said. Ziwe told the duchess that “you do look like a Nigerian,” before adding, “You look like my aunt Uzo. Did Meghan Markle Identify Herself As A Black Woman?
In the podcast, Markle said that there were times when she was afraid to speak her mind because she feared the people around her would brand her as an “angry Black woman.” She even asked her guest Issa Rae if she felt she was “allowed to be angry.” The Insecure actress said, “absolutely not,” according to Page Six. Due to Markle’s discussion about being afraid to be stereotyped as an “angry Black woman,” she raised eyebrows because, for them, she is not Black.
