Speaking recently with E! News, Yeoh explained the reason she wanted to join The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel series to Netflix’s fantasy-drama series, The Witcher. The Crazy Rich Asians star is set to take center stage in the story.
She narrated, “I get to play an elf, and you don’t see an Asian-looking elf running around a lot. I love this whole world of magic and monsters and defeating them, but I also wanted to learn why there were these monsters. In Blood Origin, you’ll find out, and it was a really exciting journey to be a part of.”
Yeoh’s character, Scian, is the last member of the Elven Ghost Tribe. She is slated to engage in a lot of action given her journey to recover a stolen blade. Scian becomes noticeable with her signature look: piercing eyes and distinctive tattoos. Yeoh finds her appearance rather meaningful.
“All of them have a meaning,” Yeoh said of Scian’s tattoos. “The ones on the forehead say, ‘Promises made shall not waver.’ It’s all with intention. Her tribe was one that believed in true loyalty. When you ask a favor from the Ghost Tribe, you should be very clear why you are doing it, because all deeds don’t go unnoticed.”
Set 1200 years before the events of the original, Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly will reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.
It will highlight the events leading up to the creation of the first Witcher prototype and the important connection between the worlds of monsters, humans, and elves.
Netflix will debut all four episodes of The Witcher: Blood Origin on December 25. Watch the trailer below:
