The 24-minute long prologue sets up the main plotline and conflict of the main series, which follows a new timeline called Ad Stella in which mankind has expanded its reach to the stars through something called GUND Format technology, which allows humans to mechanically and cybernetically enhance themselves with body modifications in order to adapt better to the colonized planets. Certain groups start using the technology to make connections between humans and Mobile Suits, which begins a conflict between corporate mecha institutes and the Earth’s government, leading to a war in space. The story centers on Ericht Samaya (a.k.a. Suletta Mercury), a young girl whose family becomes caught up in a fight on her fourth birthday. She becomes a test pilot of Gundam Lfrith, a prototype mobile suit equipped with multiple GUND-BIT weapons that can also form a shield. Suletta Mercury is voiced by Kana Ichinose, a Japanese voice actor known for her role as Ichigo from Darling in the Franxx, Maki Shijo from Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic-, and Tuesday from Carole & Tuesday. The prologue’s protagonist is voiced by Mamiko Noto for the Japanese version. Watch the prologue for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury below:
