Saint Seiya – An Iconic 80s Classic Anime
In case you’re unfamiliar, Saint Seiya or Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac is a manga series by Masami Kurumada. It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from January 1986 to December 1990. The manga is one of the most iconic titles of the late 80s, and it proved popular enough to receive a TV anime adaptation by Toei Animation. Its anime adaptation ran for 114 episodes and was broadcast between October 1986 to April 1989. Since then, the series received other adaptations, including an OVA, various anime films, and spin-off manga. The series is considered by many to be among the most influential Shonen Jump titles. It continues to be popular to this day as it recently got a 3DCG anime adaptation by Toei Animation entitled Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya. Toei’s new Saint Seiya series began with Season 1 in 2019, and it was followed by a second season entitled Battle for Sanctuary. While the first season was released on Netflix, Crunchyroll acquired the rights to Season 2. ALSO READ: The Best Classic Anime to Watch
