According to a rumor that was posted on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers Reddit page (via The Direct), Marvel Studios is planning a February 14, 2025 release date for the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. If the studio proceeds with the plan, it will fill in the “untitled Marvel movie” that is currently on that spot in Disney’s release calendar. We do have to take note that neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have confirmed this information so we have to take it with a grain of salt for now. If the film will indeed release on that date, it will be the studio’s first theatrical feature in 2025 before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in May.
However, with the sequel’s potential release before the fifth Avengers film, it does pose a question of whether the first film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is still going to be attached to the helm considering that he has already been hired to direct The Kang Dynasty, which will be released a few months after. If Marvel ends up setting Shang-Chi 2 to release in February 2025, there is the likelihood that Cretton will not return to direct the film in order to focus more on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will require him a lot of preparations with the large scale that it will have. For now, let’s just wait for any official confirmation from Marvel Studios regarding their plans for the sequel as fans are anticipating seeing the beloved character’s next solo journey in the MCU.
