However, once again, the project hits another bump a few weeks ago as Shakman decided to leave the project to helm Marvel’s Fantastic Four instead. As a result, the studio is looking for a new director again to hopefully put the project back on track. Now, as a result of the current state of the project, Variety reported that Paramount Pictures has removed the fourth Star Trek film from its release calendar. It was previously slated for release on December 22, 2023 prior to Shakman’s exit.
With this recent move, the studio is no longer committed to a particular deadline as they can now take time to find a new director (assuming that the film is still actually happening), especially since the project was supposed to film by the end of the year back when Shakman was still attached. Fans will now have to wait longer for the film to finally happen now that the project remains in development despite the exciting announcements that the studio made on the status of the project earlier this year. It should also be pointed out that the cast has still not officially signed on to the project even before Shakman exited. It would be interesting to see whether the project will be able to find a new director in order to put the project back on track and for the film to finally happen since fans have been waiting for so long for this to come to fruition.
