It was recently confirmed that the series has started filming. Now that we are only several months away from its potential premiere date, we are excited to discuss what we know about Captain Burnham and the USS Discovery crew. Here is everything we know about Star Trek: Discovery season 5.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Release Date Speculation: When Will the Fifth Star Trek: Discovery Season Come Out?
We still do not know when the fifth season of Star Trek: Discovery will come out. The series doesn’t follow a set schedule for releasing its seasons, with season 1 coming out in September 2017 and season 2 premiering in April 2019, while season 3 debuted in January 2021. Star Trek: Discovery season 4 came out in March 2022. What we can count on, though, is for a new season to come out every year so that we can expect Star Trek: Discovery season 5 anytime in 2023.
When was Star Trek: Discovery renewed for Season 5?
Paramount announced the renewal of Star Trek: Discovery in January 2022. In the same statement, we learn that Strange New World has also been renewed for season 2, while Picard will have its last season.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 2 Cast: Who are the Actors Included in the Star Trek Series?
Star Trek: Discovery season 5 has only started filming, and with the entire production team keeping information well under warps, we are still unsure about the cast. What we do know is that most of the main characters from the first four seasons will return for season 5.
The Crew of the USS Discovery
Sonequa Martin-Green leads the cast as she returns as Captain Michael Burnham. Martin-Green will most likely be joined by Doug Jones (who plays Captain Saru), Anthony Rapp (who plays Commander Paul Stamets), and Wilson Cruz (who plays Dr. Hugh Culber). Blu Del Barrio and Ian Alexander may return to season 5 as Adira Tal and Gray Tal, respectively.
The United Federation of Planets and Earth
Members of The United Federation of Planets and the citizens of Earth may also make an appearance in Star Trek: Discovery season 5. Oded Fehr may return as Admiral Charles Vance, along with Chelah Horsdal as Federation President Laira Rillak, David Cronenberg as Dr. Kovich, and Tig Notaro as Commander Jett Reno.
Sylvia Tilly and Book Leave the Discovery
In Star Trek: Discovery season 4, episode 4, we see Mary Wiseman’s Sylvia Tilly leave the USS Discovery to go down a new career track as a Starfleet Academy instructor. We see her return to help the Discovery crew in the season finale, though she hasn’t formally re-joined the crew, which means we still need to wait and see if she will be a regular or a recurring guest star in season 5. David Ajala’s Cleveland ‘Book’ Booker also left the USS Discovery after ignoring the Federation’s vote to pursue diplomatic relations with the Ten-C, opting to work with Tarka to use an isolytic weapon instead. This created conflict between Book and Burnham throughout the fourth season, but he eventually learned about Tarka’s true intentions, which Book successfully prevents with Reno’s help. However, Book was still punished for his disobedience as he was assigned to help displaced refugees, which ultimately meant he had to leave the ship. Since he left the Discovery, does this mean we will see less of him in season 5?

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Star Trek: Discovery Season 5?
The details about the plot of Star Trek: Discovery season 5 are still vague, but we have some theories about the upcoming season. During the finale of the Star Trek: Discovery season 4, Captain Burnham promised to continue exploring the final frontier, which may mean traveling through the 32nd-century galaxy. The writers drew inspiration from current events when they wrote season 4, so season 5 may also be loosely-based on issues we are facing today.
