As reported by Bleeding Cool, during her recent appearance at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Mulgrew was asked by a fan during the panel about whether they have plans to do a Kathryn Janeway spinoff series similar to what was done with Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: Picard where she confirmed that there are actual talks to make it happen.
“I would say very simply, that’s up to you,” Mulgrew said. “There are talks. You know? There are conversations. Have I been offered anything directly? No. I think they’re looking at Picard. They’re looking at the value of Picard. They’re looking at the reaction to Picard. I’m sure all of you loved it, didn’t you? I don’t know what they’re thinking, but I think that Janeway was one of a kind. Right? I don’t know, but I do think it is up to you as much as it is up to me.”
Based on Mulgrew’s comments, it looks like there is a strong likelihood now that Paramount+ will develop a Kathryn Janeway spinoff series and they are currently in actual talks to possibly make it happen. However, as the actress noted, it’s still not official as of this moment.
Considering that Picard is about to end and has performed well so far, it might motivate them to move forward with a Kathryn Janeway series. The character is also beloved and her Prodigy return has garnered renewed interest for fans to see her in live-action again.
It would be interesting to see whether they will eventually greenlight the project. Fortunately, it looks like Mulgrew is interested to see it happen and there is now a huge possibility than ever before.
