However, it looks like Star Wars’ upcoming series Andor will be shying away from delivering fan service to focus more on Cassian Andor’s story. Speaking with Variety ahead of Andor’s release next month, showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that the show will lack fan service, unlike the previous Disney+ projects that came before it. Gilroy clarifies right off the bat that everything that happens in the show is purely intended to be the way they are, adding that viewers shouldn’t confuse some of it with fan service. He explains: “It’s never cynical. It’s always meant to be there. While 2016’s Rogue One introduced us to some of the characters we’ll see on the show, fans have yet to develop the same level of attachment to them as compared to characters from the Skywalker saga and beyond.
