Fans of Studio Ghibli will soon be able to buy a ticket to the park as per an official announcement. It was also revealed when the tickets will be available for reservation and how fans can purchase them.
Ghibli Theme Park Opening
Ghibli Park was announced way back in November 2017, and it’s only the second Studio Ghibli-themed attraction alongside the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. After much anticipation, the park was opened on November 1. During the opening, only three locations were available to visit. These include Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, Hill of Youth, and Dondoko Forest. These themed areas are based on specific Studio Ghibli films, including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Whisper of the Heart. Given Studio Ghibli’s massive popularity in Japan, tickets for the park were quickly snapped up as soon as they were available. The demand for tickets was so great that they were released via a lottery system, meaning only lucky fans were able to visit. While Japan finally opened its borders to tourists in early October 2022, international visitors were unable to join the lotteries for Ghibli Park tickets. This is because these lotteries required Japanese credit cards to enter. This is unlike the system in place for the Ghibli Museum where limited numbers of tickets were available for purchase by international visitors. Ghibli Park: How to Buy Tickets Internationally
Finally, tourists coming to Japan will get a chance to buy tickets in 2023. As announced on the Ghibli Park website, fans can buy tickets beginning January 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM JST (January 9 at 9:00 PM Pacific Time). Take note though, Ghibli Park tickets are still limited, so these international reservations are dated from March 15 to April 30, 2023. This means you can’t buy tickets on January 10 and visit earlier than March 15. Plus, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to buy tickets given that there’s no info on the number of reservations that will be made available. The website also mentions that international ticket sales will have a gradual rollout. This means fans will have to check the site regularly if they want to secure reservations for 2023. Ghibli Park is in Nagakute, Aichi, Japan. Its closest major city is Nagoya, a city that’s an hour and a half away from Tokyo by Shinkansen.
