Speaking with Collider, Owain Arthur shared how the beard became a part of him playing Durin in The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, “That beard, particularly at lunchtime, takes control. It dictates what I can and can’t do with lunch, that’s for sure. It was one of the tasks and hurdles that I had to overcome, to make us both one.” The challenge of playing Durin extends to the wardrobe of Arthur, “It’s not until the very last piece is put on that the look is complete. It’s so meticulous and detailed, and a lot of thought and care has gone into the creating of Durin.” Arthur reveals that should there be a spinoff, it would be about Durin and Elrond, “There were hints in the script of Elrond having saved Durin’s life, but Durin’s idea was that he saved Elrond’s life. I’d like to see what actually happened, in that moment, and see what Durin was like, as a child.” Arthur feels accomplished playing Durin in the series, “I’d been on a journey as Durin, as the dwarf, with all these prosthetics and beards on my person, so it felt like a huge accomplishment that it was all complete and that I was happy with how things had gone.”

Recently, Durin is suspicious about the movements of Elrond while at the caves of Moria and Durin’s own wife, Disa, made a huge discovery that would forever change the course of the narrative. The Dwarves call it “Gray Glitter,” but it is best known as “mithril.” Mithril, as known in the lore of The Lord of the Rings, is a precious metal which can only be found at the caves of Moria and it is so rare, that it is lightweight but harder than steel. It neither tarnishes nor go dull. This discovery of the Dwarves could forever change their lives. In the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien, Mithril is of significant importance as it could be the greatest of the treasures but it could also be the cause of harm to someone. Note that one of the Rings of Power was made of Mithril, in the lore, it is what Galadriel will be wearing.
