At the time of writing, though, this has not been depicted in the series, and some changes in the source material might be inevitable, so here’s what we do know from the books:
Who Made the Rings in The Lord of the Rings?
The rings of power were created by Elves in Eregion, a realm belonging to the Noldor Elves in Eriador. The only exception, of course, is the One Ring, which was created by Sauron alone. Early in The Rings of Power tv series, we see Galadriel hunting Sauron in spite of everything and everyone around her. We might have not seen him yet, but it’s very likely that he will, eventually, make an appearance. Supporting this prediction is the fact that Sauron actually played a role in the creation of the Rings, before eventually forging his own in secret.
The Rings of Power Explained
The Rings that the elves forged are nineteen in total. Three of them had never been touched by Sauron but their connection to the One Ring makes them potentially dangerous. Seven rings went to the dwarves; Sauron gave them to the dwarves with the purpose of corrupting them, though this didn’t go exactly according to plan. But there was a case in which the rings did cause significant damage, and that is the case of the nine humans who also received rings of power. While the rings were, theoretically, beneficial for them at first, granting them longevity and help of other kinds, the power eventually overtook them making them into the infamous Nazgul. As of September 2022, the tv show hasn’t confirmed what they intend to do with these rings, and whether the manner of their creation and distribution will be loyal to the source material. Still, seeing Sharon before he was fully corrupted, as well as the creation of the rings that caused so much trouble will most likely be exciting to delve into.
