According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wednesday has held the record for the biggest opening week for an English-language series on Netflix as it racked up 341.2 million hours of viewing hours worldwide. It beat the fourth season of Stranger Things which had 335 million hours in its first week. However, the first season of Squid Game still holds the overall record as it racked up 571.76 million viewing hours on its first week last year which is way ahead of Wednesday’s numbers. In addition, Wednesday was also number one in 83 countries during the week, tying the record of the fourth season of Stranger Things when it debuted a few months ago. The streamer also estimated that 50 million households worldwide watched at least part of the series.
This is certainly an impressive achievement for the series since it managed to earn it in its debut season. It is also proof that a lot of people were looking forward to it and word-of-mouth spread to the audience. It would be interesting to see how it will perform during its first 28 days. The series is “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.” The cast includes Jenna Ortega, Christina Ricci, Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Naomi J. Ogawa, Joy Sunday, Victor Dorobantu, and George Burcea. Also Read: Wednesday Showrunner Reveals How [Spoilers] Has Always Been the Big Bad of the Show Wednesday is currently streaming on Netflix.
