Tim Burton has previously unveiled why he wanted to helm the Wednesday show and his reason probably goes hand-in-hand with what the viewers think about this latest adaptation. Wednesday focuses on the titular character as a teenager rather than her traditional form as a child dealing with shenanigans. The Netflix show also brings Wednesday apart from the Addams family by enrolling to a new boarding school called Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday investigates strange murders and finds out she has psychic powers.
Not only is Wednesday the latest installment, but according to The Independent, the show has hit a milestone with its audience score. Although the show initially received mixed reviews, the series has received an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, deeming it the highest-ranked adaptation since its 1964-1966 TV series.

Wednesday also tops the 1991 The Addams Family film starring Christina Ricci’s version (66% audience rating), as well as the 1993 sequel, the Addams Family Values (63%). In fact, it had even surpassed the animated adaptation of the Addams Family released in 2019 and 2021, both of which had an audience score of only 69%.
As an outcast among outcasts, as Tim Burton described the titular character, this version of the Addams Family daughter portrayed a fresh look on Wednesday as a teen when it comes to handling her own journey, as she said in the series, carving her own path far from what her mother and father want her to become (them).
It is also thanks to Jenna Ortega, who was casted for the role; because of her dedication to take her own spin into the character, she was able to bring the ‘modern’ Wednesday to life on our screens today.
Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
