Speaking recently with TVLine, co-showrunner Miles Millar assured viewers that they still have plans to feature more of the Addams Family in the series’ potential second season, especially Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Morticia Adams, who they cited as essential in Wednesday’s journey. “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” he explained. “Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.” However, Millar also pointed out that given the title of the series, the story’s focus has to be on Wednesday Addams although they “definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season.”
Co-showrunner Alfred Gough also explained that they’re planning to explore more of Wednesday’s growth in the second season if ever they get renewed, continuing the journey that they set up in the series’ freshman run. “The series is really about a girl who sees the world in black and white, and learning there are shades of gray,” he said. “I think like any relationship or any friendship, it can get complicated by other factors. It’s never going to be smooth sailing. And it’s really her learning to navigate the ups and downs of friendship.” Since the series is part of The Addams Family franchise, it is understandable if some viewers were expecting more of the family during the series although, as the title already suggested, it really shouldn’t be surprising that they are focusing a lot on Wednesday Addams, who herself is already a fan-favorite character for decades. Nevertheless, it is exciting that the potential second season may explore more of the family and give us more moments with them. But first, let’s wait for any news regarding its renewal which we might hear in the coming weeks.
