The return of the sixth season has kept fans on the edge of their seats for two years, especially with the delays caused by the pandemic. The production originally planned to start filming in March 2020 and wrap up in July of the same year. But because of the global lockdowns, things did not go as scheduled. They were only able to start filming in January 2021 and finished in May 2021. And naturally, many couldn’t help but wonder if there will be a Peaky Blinders Season 7. We’ve got the full details here.
Will There Be a Peaky Blinders Season 7 Coming Out?
Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed that Peaky Blinders Season 6 is the last season that will air on Netflix in the US. Peaky Blinders will not be returning for the seventh season. The journey of the show ends at nine years and six seasons. Or is it really? In an interview with Deadline, show creator Steven Knight revealed that he always intended to end the show with a movie. Knight assured fans in the interview “while the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form. That is what is going to happen.” While things haven’t been announced officially, many can’t help but get excited at the possibility of a spinoff series. But this is something we can’t expect to see anytime soon. At the London Film Festival, Knight revealed that he wishes to do a movie that will be “set in and shot in Birmingham” once Season 6 is finished. This means they won’t start production until later in 2022. And just recently, Knight spoke with NME and revealed the progress of the spinoff movie. As it turns out, production could start anytime now since the script is nearing completion. “Yes, I’m writing it right now. I’m nearly done writing it, and we’re going to shoot it… I’m setting up some film and television studios in Digbeth in Birmingham.” As for his shooting location plans, Knight explained his reason for choosing Birmingham: “We’re going to shoot it at the studios in Digbeth, and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham. Digbeth and Small Heath is where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed. So it’s like Peaky’s coming home basically.”
Why Won’t There Be a Peaky Blinders Season 7?
There are numerous reasons why a Peaky Blinders Season 7 won’t be happening. Mainly, the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the plans of the show. In early 2021, Knight appeared on BBC News and revealed: “The original intention was to do seven series, but COVID has stolen a year from us, and we felt what would be a great idea is to, almost in place of that seventh series, is to go onto the big screen.” Another reason why the showrunner decided to push through with the film was the tragic death of Helen McCrory, who is part of the cast as Polly Gray. “We just felt, also with the loss of Helen [McCrory], that it all seemed to be pointing towards doing what I’m calling ’the end of the beginning.’ Let’s end the beginning, then let’s do the film. And then let’s see where we go in terms of spin-offs.” Right now, there are no trailers yet for the film.
