As a result of this, the movie’s chances of getting a sequel have been slim. The lead actor, Keanu Reeves, went on to have a low-key life away from the spotlight until his career was resurrected by his character, John Wick. The success of the franchise sprouted calls of avid fans for a Constantine 2. Even Reeves has expressed his desire to reprise his role as the comic book character once again. Also, it’s possible that the introduction of Johanna Constantine (played by Jenna Coleman) in Netflix Original series, The Sandman, reignited the reboot rumors. And thankfully, there is good news regarding the Constantine film franchise. As revealed by Deadline, Warner Bros will be creating a sequel to the 2005 supernatural thriller. The even better news is that it’s been confirmed that Reeves will be reprising his role as John Constantine and will be working with the original film’s director, Francis Lawrence. Here’s everything we know about Constantine 2 at this point:
Constantine 2 Release Date: When is Constantine 2 Coming Out?
As of this writing, Warner Bros has not revealed the projected release date for Constantine 2. It’s possible that the project is in its very early development stages, which could mean that it will take a while before we get any follow-up about the movie. According to reports, Akiva Goldsman still has to complete the script. It is also said that Lawrence and his team of producers are still working on the story details. And even if the script gets finished, we also have to factor in the busy schedules of Reeves and Lawrence. Apart from Constantine 2, Lawrence is currently working on the prequel to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the Netflix adaptation of the game, Bioshock. Plus, Reeves has a pretty busy career at the moment; especially with John Wick: Chapter 4. Because of these things, it might take a while before Constantine 2 filming starts.
Why Constantine Got Cancelled on HBO Max
When news of the Constantine sequel broke out online, many couldn’t help but wonder what would happen to the proposed Constantine series that will be streamed on HBO Max. Unfortunately, the HBO Max-based series got canceled. Warner Bros decided to pull the plug on the series reboot that will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions company. But the good news is that Abrams will still be producing Constantine 2.
Is Constantine 2 on Netflix? Is Constantine 2 in Production?
As mentioned, it will likely take a while before Constantine 2 enters production status. The film is currently in its very early development stage so there might not be a script to work with yet. But we’ll continue to monitor the progress of the film as more news come out.
What Will Constantine 2 Story Be About?
One of the advantages of Constantine’s story is that there is a number of storylines from the comic book series to work on. And just like the story of his ancestor, Johanna, John comes and goes whenever his services are needed. If Constantine 2 stays true to the first film, we could see John quitting smoking for good. That’s because he was given a second chance at life and he doesn’t plan to waste it this time around. And after what she’s been through, Angela Dodson (played by Rachel Weisz) could be pursuing a career in the paranormal. Considering that it’s been almost two decades since the first film, we can expect new characters to be introduced, who might become regulars if ever the producers decide to turn the film into a franchise.
Who’s Coming Back for Constantine 2 Cast?
At this point, only Reeves has been confirmed to return for his role as the exorcist, John Constantine. We don’t know yet if Weisz will be back as Angela Dodson or if Peter Stormare will be reprising his role as the Devil. We’re also hoping that Tilda Swinton will be back for her role as the angel Gabriel.
Is There a Constantine 2 Trailer Yet?
Right now, there is no trailer for Constantine 2 yet. We will continue to monitor things and see the next developments of this project.
