After nearly four years, Ainz Ooal Gown made a huge comeback in Overlord 4. Ainz’s kingdom in E-Rantel aims to bring eternal prosperity to the residents and the rest of Nazarick. Ainz is also concerned about the whereabouts of his fellow supreme rulers in the new world. Will Ainz meet other players in Overlord?
Why Does Ainz Glow Green in Overlord?
Ainz’s Ooal Gown glows green whenever his emotions get the best of him. It is technically an emotion suppression system that kicks in whenever Ainz feels strongly. After all, he is an undead with no need for unnecessary emotions. It does, however, only apply to the Ainz Ooal Gown’s class. For overlords like him, the emotional suppression system functions as a passive skill. In case you’re not familiar, Ainz Ooal Gown is a mix of Skeleton Mage, Elder Litch, and the Overlord race. With the suppression system, Ainz, unlike Shalltear and the others, cannot feel more than he needs to. It balances his emotions and returns him to normal. Ainz’s passive skill activates whenever he becomes overly excited, overwhelmed, angry, or aroused. It can be useful at times, but there are times when he wishes he didn’t have it. Regardless, the green glow isn’t harmful to him. Furthermore, as part of his emotion suppression system, he is unable to feel remorse or guilt. This is evident in instances where Ainz questions his humanity as he prepares to torture and kill someone. In the light novel, the emotional regulation system doesn’t even glow green. It is an anime-only message that tells the viewers that Ainz’s emotions get the best of him.
Is the Green Glow a Debuff in Overlord?
The green glow in Overlord is not a debuff for Ainz Ooal Gown. It is a passive skill for the Overlord race that limits the amount of emotion Ainz is allowed to feel. After all, the undead should be emotionless or non-existent. It is not a disadvantage in the sense that the emotional restraints imposed on Ainz have no negative impact on his statistics or characteristics.
Does Ainz Have Emotions in Overlord?
Yes, even though he is an undead, Ainz has emotions in Overlord. His emotions, however, pale in comparison to those he feels in his human form. Ainz’s emotions are always returned to a neutral state by his emotional suppressants whenever they get the best of him. However, Ainz has always had brooding emotions, especially when it comes to Nazarick and the rest of the floor guardians. As time goes by, Ainz questions his humanity whenever he’s plotting to kill someone innocent just to achieve his objectives.
